committed to Kindness in Action
Kindness in Action Service Society of Alberta is a group of concerned individuals, motivated by a belief in the dignity of all people and their right to basic human needs.
Volunteer dentists perform examinations, extractions, restorations, cleanings and fabricating dentures in third world countries. The guiding principle for the treatment programs is the relief of pain for the greatest number of people. This is balanced with prevention, dispensing toothbrushes and individual and school hygiene instruction.
Dr. Dan Hwang is very committed to this charity because he has seen positive results first-hand while volunteering in several different countries. In his words:
"I became involved with Kindness in Action through a good friend. He and I were both interested, because as dentists, we felt a social responsibility to do so. The experience was eye-opening to say the least. When you see the living conditions down there and how happy most of the people still are it really grounds you. Not to mention the rewarding feeling you take away from helping these children and adults."
With good hearts and a lot of humility, Kindness in Action works with what they have. They work cooperatively alongside host grassroots organizations; for most of these communities it is their only opportunity in a year to receive any kind of care.
Comprehensive community based prevention programs are being developed and implemented. These include the training of local people as dental health promoters and supporting many small education, agricultural and health initiatives.
At Westboro Station Dental, we are encouraged by the progress we see and the difference this program makes in the lives of others. On each weekly project, Kindness in Action helps approximately 500 people in different countries. We encourage you to make a donation to this worthy cause.
